High End 2017: Aequo Audio

Aequo Audio demonstrated a copper-plated version of their Ensis loudspeaker.  The Ensis is a small floor-standing speaker with a built-in subwoofer, powered by a Hypex N-core amplifier.  The rest of the demonstration system consisted of:

  • Sound Galeries SGM 2015 musi cserver
  • Audiopax Maggiore L50 preamplifier
  • Audiopax Maggiore M50 single ended tube amplifier
  • Tellurium Q cabling

The Ensis produced a very music, refined sound with a deep, powerful, controlled bass which belied its compact dimensions.

High End 2017: AURALiC

AURALiC demonstrated two members of their new G2 series, the Aries G2 streaming transporter and the Vega G2 streaming .  These sources used a pair of AURALiC Merak monoblock amplifiers to drive a pair of Ryan Tempus III loudspeakers.

High End 2016 takes place from Thursday 2016-05-05 to Sunday 2016-05-08 and the MOC in Munich, Germany.

High End is the premier audio show in the world, drawing exhibitors and attendees from across the globe.  Unfortunately Serious Music isn't able to attend this year, but we'll be keeping you informed about the show its displays and demos, major product launches and announcements via the Serious Music Blog.

CES 2016: Show Reports

CES 2016 was staged in Las Vegas from Wednesday 2016-01-06 to Saturday 2016-01-09.  As the largest consumer electronics show in the world, all types of electronic gadgetry were on show, with numerous product announcements and prototype displays.

As the first major audio show of the year there was also lots for the audiophile to see and hear.

Toronto Audio Video Entertainment Show (TAVES) 2014 Show Report (page 1)

The Toronto Audio Video Entertainment Show (TAVES) 2014 was held from Friday 2014-10-31 to Sunday 2014-11-02 at the Sheraton Center in downtown Toronto.  Spread over four floors of the Sheraton, the show presented video projectors, TVs, cameras, 3D printing, CDs, vinyl and accessories for purchase, and paintings to complement the very healthy serving of high end audio products.

Kudos/Norma

This simple system consisted of a Norma REVO CD player and REVO IPA-140 integrated amp driving the small Kudos X3 floorstanding speakers in a small untreated room.

Both of these manufacturers were new to me, but the system produced excellent sound, with surprising amounts of well-controlled bass, good imaging and a deep, wide soundstage.

Toronto Audio Video Entertainment Show (TAVES) 2014 Show Report (page 4)

Naim/Focal

This system consisted of the Naim Statement NAC S1 preamp and NAP S1 mono power amps driving the Focal Grande Utopia EM speakers in a large, untreated room.  This is the same system used at NYAS2014 in New York (see my  comments on the system at NYAS2014 here).
