Cécile McLorin Salvant: Dreams and Daggers

Jazz vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant has recently released her fourth album, Dreams and Daggers.  The album combines live recordings from the Village Vanguard in New York with studio recordings.  It features Aaron Diehl  on piano, Paul Sikivie on bass and Lawrence Leathers on drums.  Also appearing are the Catalyst Quartet on strings and Sullivan Fortner on piano.

Oscalypso , a 2015 album by jazz cellist and composer Erik Friedlander, is his tribute to jazz bassist and cellist Oscar Pettiford.

Horace Silver dies at 85

Jazz pianist, composer and hard bop pioneer, Horace Silver, died in New York on 2014-06-18.

Silver got his start in the 1950s playing with Stan Getz.  He went on to play with many of the greats and to lead his own groups.  He also had a very successful recording career, principally with Blue Note.
