Calypso Rose wins WOMEX 16 Artist Award

Legendary calypsonian Calypso Rose,  Rose McCartha Linda Sandy Lewis, is the winner of the WOMEX 16 Artist Award.

WOMEX, the World Music Expo, is an annual international networking event for the world music industry.  At WOMEX 16, held from 2016-10-19 to 2016-10-23 in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, Calypso Rose received the prestigious WOMEX Artist Award.

Leonard Cohen dies at 82

The hugely influential Canadian songwriter and singer, Leonard Cohen, died at the age of 82 on 2016-11-07.

A poet as well as a songwriter, Leonard Cohen is famous for such classic and widely covered songs as Suzanne and Halleluja.  Among the many honours he has received are:

  • Grammy for Album of the Year
  • Induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
  • Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame
